- ŠIBENIK
- Šibenik, located along side the flooded mouth of the Krka river is the most picturesque city on the eastern Adriatic coast. The historical nucleus of Šibenik with numerous churches and monasteries, stone houses and mansions, ornamented by portals and heraldic crests, displays its rich cultural heritage. This city, where many artists, scientists and men of letters left their trace, remains a lively cultural center, the host to the International Children Festival. The Cathedral of St. James, built in a gotic renaissance style under the direction of the famous arhitects Juraj Dalmatinac (George of Dalmatia) and Nikola Firentinac (Nicolas of Florance), it is exceptional, for it was built exclusively of stone and for its portrets of the citizens of Šibenik of that time. The Cathedral was added to the UNESCO World heritage list. |
